This beautiful decanter was created in Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic), a region which was famous for its decorative glassware. Antique Bohemian glass is celebrated for the high quality of its craftsmanship and for the beauty of its ornamentation.
The decanter features a bulbous body, topped by an octagonal ring-knopped neck. The decanter is covered by a stopper with a waisted and faceted base, a knop and conical end. The glass decanter is covered with a ruby red overlay and is finely parcel gilt and enamelled. The enamel decorations include orange C-scrolls, colourful stylised flowers and raised beads. The decanter’s body has also been cut with medallions and petalled forms which are filled with cross-hatchings.
