Large Hall Mirror with Cow Horn Decorations and Console Table, Austria, 1870

A great wall mirror with console table from a noble villa in the Austrian alps. Manufactured in Austria ca. 1870s. The mirror is covered with vintage cow fur and decorated with original cattle horns. The console table base is made of wood and cattle horns too. Unrestored condition, sturdy, the fur should be replaced (is loosing hairs).

At the beginning of the 19th century the European nobility discovered antler furnishings for their hunting castles and countryseats. The furniture was either manufactured completely from e.g. stag antler, or it was decorated with antler pieces from the stag, deer, fallow deer and others to get a hunting desing. A famous example was the interior design of “Jagdschloss Platte” (hunting castle platte) of count William of Nassau near Wiesbaden, Germany in 1825.
